The knee is a complex joint with many bone, ligament and muscles components, making it vulnerable to a variety of injuries and wear. A number of knee injuries can be successfully treated at home through rest, ice, compression or strengthening exercises, but other injuries may require surgery to help with pain and mobility problems.
Common problems include fractures around the knee, dislocation, and sprains and tears of soft tissues. At Florida Institute of Orthopaedic Surgical Specialists, we aim to restore each patient to his or her best life, through a combination of diagnosis and treatment options that address specific needs. The first step is gathering a medical history to determine exactly what contributed to the knee issue. Then a full physical exam will provide more information. In most cases, additional tests like X-rays, and CT and MRI scans will be ordered. At times, additional procedures like arthroscopy may help a doctor see problems inside the joint.
When a full profile of a patient is complete, the team at Florida Institute of Orthopaedic Surgical Specialists will create an individualized treatment plan that may include minimally invasive surgery, open surgery, support devices, physical therapy or other recommended actions.
